The Walled City

Situation The Street of Archers
Element A crossbow
Dance Ball dels Capgrossos de Girona

The Archer is one of the lookouts who watched the length of the city wall. He bears the name of Archers (Ballesteries), the street that follows the outline of the ancient western wall. In the 12th century, this street was known as the Street of the Factories for the large number of metallurgical workshops that were there. Starting in the 14th century, it was the place where artisans who made crossbows and arrows were concentrated, thus becoming Archers’ Street.

Archer is an amiable and vigorous youth. He is uniformed with a harlequinesque red and white shirt and tight bottle-green leggings, clothing with an obvious medieval flavor. He represents the strength of an impenetrable Girona thanks to its strong walls.
